Once a quarter, HamburgAI brings together interested parties from start-ups, companies and research to discuss topics and trends in the fields of artificial intelligence and data science. At the tenth edition of the event on November 6 in the WeWork Stadthaus, more than 100 participants listened to presentations by FREE NOW and RISK IDENT and discussed the future of the Hanseatic city as an AI location with representatives of the newly founded Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg (ARIC) e. V.
At CollectAI events, experts present AI use cases from practice and share insights that are exciting from both a technological and a business perspective.
HamburgAI is a community founded by CollectAI that brings together start-ups, established companies and researchers to discuss the state of the industry and new trends in the field of artificial intelligence.
The event took place on November 6, 2019 in the WeWork Stadthaus. Speakers from FREE NOW, RISK IDENT and ARIC e. V. were in attendance.
In the first presentation of the evening, Dr. Marco Fisichella shared insights into the development of AI-based solutions for fraud detection on the internet. Together with his team at the Otto Group subsidiary RISK IDENT, the data science expert with a doctorate relies on the open source software platform Kubeflow. The Hamburg-based company’s algorithms are already being used successfully by numerous well-known companies such as Vodafone, BonPrix and SIXT and protect more than 55 billion euros in turnover every year.
Dr. Tereza Iofciu was the second to take the stage. As Lead Data Scientist at leading mobility provider FREE NOW, she reported on her experience of developing data-based solutions in companies. She illustrated that there are more than just technical challenges to overcome in this role. Product owners often initially have to do a lot of mediation work within the organization with regard to the still relatively new technologies.
The fact that artificial intelligence is more than just a buzzword should now be accepted in business and politics. This is also the case in Hamburg, the smartest city in Germany according to a recent study by the industry association Bitkom and now the home port for the Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg (ARIC) e.V., which was recently initiated by the Senate, business and research.
As board members of the association, Dr. Lars Schwabe (Lufthansa Industry Solutions) and Prof. Dr. Nick Gehrke (zapliance) discussed Hamburg’s future as an AI location with Dr. Tereza Iofciu, Dr. Marco Fisichella and the audience, as well as the importance of diversity in the still male-dominated high-tech sector. The session was moderated by machine learning expert Omar Kawahji and former Business Insider Germany editor-in-chief and communications expert Christin Martens (both collectAI).
