Artificial intelligence has no prejudices, feelings or emotions and yet we keep hearing about AI systems that disadvantage or favor groups of people. It seems as if AI acts in a discriminatory and racist way, but where does this come from and how can it be changed? In this workshop, we will show you why AI is never completely unbiased, when bias is desirable and when it is not. We will look at what can and must be done in AI projects to counteract unwanted bias and what else we need to consider in order to train as ethically as possible.

About the speaker
Dr. Maria Börner holds a doctorate in physics and is responsible for developing the AI strategy at Westernacher Solutions. There she works on AI projects in the areas of justice, church and public authorities. She previously worked as a product owner for AI solutions and projects and acted as a contact person for management consultancies and automotive manufacturers. In addition to her work, she is active in the Women in AI network and is committed to increasing the visibility of women in the tech sector.
