Together with project partners, ARIC is building a smartwalk. The intelligent crosswalk serves as a demonstration object for interested parties and makes the advantages of a digital traffic infrastructure tangible. The Smartwalk has a digital road sign and a camera system. Artificial intelligence evaluates the videos, recognizes dangerous traffic situations and issues warning light signals if necessary. This helps to prevent accidents, which increases road safety, especially for pedestrians and cyclists.
NATIX GmbH, which specializes in anonymized edge video technology, will assist with the implementation of the project. The Estonian software developer Bercman will support the project with its expertise in road safety. The Hamburger Informatik Technologie-Center e.V. (HITeC) will contribute its expertise in data analysis. The data will be made available for further research purposes. The project funding for the Smartwalk comes from the Modernity Fund (mfund) of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure.
Alois Krtil, Managing Director of ARIC: “Artificial intelligence can make an important contribution to road safety and reduce the number of accidents. With the Smartwalk, we are campaigning for safe roads and also demonstrating the great potential of intelligent infrastructure. In this way, we are ensuring citizen-oriented digitalization and increasing the acceptance of artificial intelligence.”
