Workshops canceled/ now webinars

This post has been translated by an AI and may contain translational inaccuracies.

In view of the coronavirus situation, the Health and Consumer Protection Authority issued an updated fourth general decree on 15.03.2020 to contain the coronavirus. This will take effect from 16.03.20. In this context, both public and non-public events are prohibited, regardless of the number of participants.

We therefore unfortunately have to cancel the ARIC workshops planned for the coming weeks. We want to do our part to protect participants, especially older people and those who are already ill, from the further spread of the virus. At our events, we also want to make sure that everyone involved can enjoy them to the full without any second thoughts. Unfortunately, this cannot be guaranteed these days.

We are currently working on an alternative solution to offer at least some of the workshops for which this makes sense via a webinar. Some workshops are now online as webinars.

You can register at info@aric-hamburg.de. The registration deadline is 08.04.2020. After receiving the registrations, we will send a link for the corresponding workshops, which you can use to join the respective workshop without further ado.

The following workshops are now available online as webinars:

The AI and data science check

Speaker: Prof. Dr. Nick Gehrke (Board of Directors ARIC e.V., Nordakademie, Zapliance GmbH)

Workshop level: Beginner

Date: 08.04.2020

Start: 4 p.m., duration: 45 minutes lecture followed by a discussion round (approx. 30 minutes)

The workshop aims to develop how one can approach the topic of artificial intelligence in a company. The focus is on use cases and application domains, which are suitable for methods of artificial intelligence / machine learning due to sufficient data availability.

Humanizing AI: Artificial intelligence and art

Speakers: Dalia Moniat (ARIC e.V., Visual Artist)

Workshop level: Beginner

Date: 15.04.2020

Start: 4 p.m., 90-minute interactive workshop

Artificial intelligence and art have one thing in common. They are abstract in their essence and their conceptual derivation and must be filled with concrete examples for conceptual clarification. Which technical solutions are already turning our current understanding of art upside down? How can we use artistic appropriation to vividly convey the topic of AI? Following a lecture by Dalia Moniat, the participants will explore together the areas of application of artificial intelligence in artistic creation and on the art market. During the workshop, we will introduce use cases and present a catalog of questions and current discussions.

Artificial intelligence for users

Speakers: Dr. Lothar Hotz (ARIC board member, HITeC e.V. managing director), Dr. Sven Magg (AI expert HITeC e.V.)

Workshop level: Beginner

Date: 14.04.2020

Start: 5 p.m., duration: 45 minutes lecture followed by a discussion round (approx. 30 minutes)

The workshop is aimed at users with no prior knowledge of AI and explains the most important terms in the field of machine learning. The following questions will be answered:

– What is learning AI and what problems can it solve?

– What happens conceptually during training and when using the AI?

– What requirements must be met in order to use AI effectively?

– What does the amount of data you need depend on?

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to answer these questions without having to have any knowledge of computer science or know the technical or mathematical details. The workshop is therefore explicitly aimed at potential users from other areas and is intended to convey the ideas of machine learning in order to be able to discuss possible fields of application.

In addition, our founding member HITeC e.V. offers a very affordable 3-day workshop. Please note that this is a paid workshop.

Deep Neural Learning and Bayesian Optimization of Hyperparameters

Speaker: Mohammad Ali Zamani, Dr. Sven Magg (HITeC e.V.)

Workshop level: Advanced

Date:

Day 1: 09.04.2020

Day 2: 16.04.2020

Day 3: 23.04.2020

Start: 4 p.m. each day

The participation fee of 140 Euro incl. 7 % VAT entitles you to participate in all courses.

A challenge when using artificial intelligence methods, especially neural networks, is the search for optimal hyperparameters (e.g. number of filters, learning rate). The main goal of the workshop is to prepare participants to start their own deep learning projects and optimize their models using one of the latest optimization methods. All participants will receive practical knowledge on introductory examples for all presented topics to start their own projects.

Each day of this workshop includes theoretical and practical parts on the topics of Bayesian optimization, deep learning, hyperparameter optimization methods (AutoML) and implementation of an adaptive deep learning program via hyperparameter search.

This workshop is suitable for programmers, engineers, researchers and data scientists with a good knowledge of Python. Please bring a laptop. No specific AI software installation is required. You will need a Google account and access to https://colab.research.google.com/notebooks/welcome.ipynb.

The workshop will be held in English, questions can be asked in German and will be answered in German if necessary. Interaction and discussion will be made possible.

You can register at Eventin under the following link:
