Individual projects by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and collaborative projects between SMEs and large companies, universities, research institutions, etc. are funded. As a rule, a funding rate of 50% of the eligible costs applies to companies. Adjusted funding rates apply for start-ups and large companies. Projects should be funded for a maximum of 3 years.

Research and development projects with the following focal points/topics are of interest (the list of topics only provides a few examples and does not claim to be exhaustive):
- Automated information processing
- Digital assistants, e.g. for people in dangerous or stressful environments, for the social sector (e.g. impaired or elderly people, self-determined living, people in stressful situations)
- Computer vision/image comprehension
- Language and text comprehension:
- Domain-specific content
- Target group-specific content (e.g. age, dialect, non-native speakers)
- privacy-by-design approaches for such systems
- Data-driven systems and data engineering
- Basic questions about intelligent systems
