SC1-PHE-CORONAVIRUS-2020-2B – Medical technologies, Digital tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) analytics to improve surveillance and care at high Technology Readiness Levels (TRL)

Proposals should relate to one or more of the following areas:
- rapid, cost-effective and easy-to-use sampling, screening, diagnostic and prognostic systems, including new methods for lung screening, e.g. using AI or advanced photonic solutions to detect the presence of pathogen-related parameters, especially at an early stage of infection;
- Environmental monitoring systems (wastewater, air, etc.) and data analysis as a sentinel for the (re-)emergence and spread of viruses in communities, e.g. based on optical biosensors or genetic detection;
- low-cost sensors, smart wearable devices and robotics/AI for telemedicine, telepresence and continuous remote monitoring of patient parameters;
- Protection of healthcare professionals and the general public, e.g. by improving the wetting and filtering properties of fabrics for face masks; sensors, sterilization, including robotics and AI solutions, for disinfection and social distancing in environments such as healthcare, public spaces and buildings;
- innovative data-driven services and tools that combine data sets from various relevant private and/or publicly available sources. This could include AI-based solutions that use such data and possibly additional sensor-based signals for diagnosis, prevention, treatment or rehabilitation. The protection of privacy, data protection and anonymity when using mobile warning and prevention applications in accordance with Commission Recommendation C(2020) 2296 of 8 April 2020 on a common Union toolbox for the use of technology and data to combat and recover from the COVID-19 crisis should be ensured.
