Event report – Europe’s tech scene met at GITEX 2025 in Berlin. The focus was on AI, quantum computing, cybersecurity, robotics and international partnerships.
On May 21-23, 2025, one of the largest technology trade fairs in Europe, GITEX, took place in Berlin for the first time.According to KAOUN Int. and Dubai World Trade Centre, who organized GITEX together with Messe Berlin, more than 1400 exhibitors, over 600 startups and visitors from over a hundred countries were involved in the first edition.
The trade fair provided important impetus for current and future global developments in technology and digitalization. Under the motto #WeChooseEurope, leading minds from the world of artificial intelligence, quantum computing, cybersecurity and robotics, among others, gathered to present innovative solutions and strategies.
Content focus
A central topic of the event was the practical applicability of AI as well as political strategies to promote the use of AI in education and the labor market. In particular, emerging AI-first nations and their investment plans were highlighted. The talks also focused on the development of infrastructures to strengthen the national technology and skilled labor base. The question of how synthetic data should be used in order to overcome the limitations of existing models was also discussed.
In the area of quantum computing, the current state of the technology as well as investment plans and the earliest possible implementation in the industry were discussed. According to Dr. M. Bache from theNovo Nordisk Foundation (Denmark), this could be the case around 2030-2032. Some startups and scaleups already presented their progress in developing cooling technologies for quantum computing infrastructures.
Cybersecurity was another focus of GITEX. In the insurance and fintech sector in particular, innovative approaches to optimizing cyber risk management were presented, for example through the use of QUBO (Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization), a method presented by Generali from Italy. Leading experts from various European countries, including the UK, Romania, Belgium, Greece and Hungary, discussed how the European AI debate is influencing cybersecurity policy.
A wide range of solutions were presented in the field of robotics: In addition to the well-known Ameca robot from Engineered Arts and industrial automation solutions through to human-centered applications, the exoskeleton from German company German Bionic Systems was also on display. Numerous applications for smart cities were also on show and were a source of admiration for the visitors.
Tech Startups
As part of the North Star competition, numerous start-ups were given the opportunity to present their innovative solutions.
We at ARIC and EDIH have met numerous interested parties in the B2B sector who are looking for new partnerships, for example for test and joint venture projects. Ninety percent of them are based in Europe and most of them are currently supported by the European Innovation Council. Many have already registered several patents.
They are currently looking for suitable partners in the aerospace, energy, medtech/healthcare, logistics, agricultural and food technology sectors.
